@cwelsh @Kim, the "qualified client" requirement is certainly a hurdle in investing in the fund. So I wanted to ask if the Anchor subscription service will kind of mimic the returns of the Anchor hedge fund ? Thanks.

@Djtux For a calendar one of the criteria is when the RV of the current cycle is below the average RV. So in the chart below, can we have a email alert from volatilityhq when the RV of the current cycle falls below the average RV like on T-24 ? It will give alerts for the tickers you specify. Is this possible ? Thanks.

Hello, I am reading this thread from start to finish multiple times and had a basic question below with IBM as an example. 1) With the strangle credit below (18), if the RV charts of the previous cycles are kind of flat from T-18 to T-1 like below, does it mean IBM is a good candidate for a short strangle using the straddle chart below ? 2) If the current cycle RV is less than the median or mean RV at T-18 and also if previous RV cycles were rising up to T-0 on a calendar chart, then IBM is a good candidate for a calendar instead of a short strangle. 3) If the RV of the previous cycles show a change of more than 10% on the straddle chart below instead of flat, then IBM is a good candidate for a long straddle ?

"I've implemented both the 'min RV for the current cycle', as well as the average and the percentile." Where can I find this ? I looked around in "Settings", and on individual calendar charts but could not see this. Thanks.

Would these new forums be part of the existing membership or would they be needing an additional subscription ? Thanks.

Email subject handling to easily manage mails
Manish71 replied to siddharth's topic in General Board
You can open a separate Gmail account for steady options. In the email list itself you can see which emails are trades and which are discussions. You can open the trade emails only. -
All their back testing is during low volatility times during last few years. So we have to see how the trade ideas work out during high vol regime.

Quick question about selling naked on indices such as SPX
Manish71 replied to CXMelga's topic in General Board
Probably not a good time to sell premium since SPX vol is only 23%. -
They have $160 billion under management, so those strategies have to be on very liquid tickers.

I am wondering do these hedge funds use option strategies to get these kind of returns last year: https://finance.yahoo.com/news/bridgewater-apos-pure-alpha-fund-230000726.html

CMLViz has added technical triggers in the backtesting tool. It will be interesting to see what kind of results the trades taken after using the technical triggers give now.

I was reading the pros and cons of using Section 475(f) to qualify as a trader. What do people here generally do in terms of this ? Below is a good article I found : https://www.journalofaccountancy.com/issues/2014/jul/sec-475-election-20149537.html

@Yowster, For ETFs how does one play the option strategies ? Like you mentioned above the only parameter one can look at is the IV. I guess the risk might be less but the rewards will be less also trading ETFs. Is that the reason SO does not do ETF trades ?

Hi Kim, Yowster, I joined SO mid November so missed pre earnings calendar trades. Are we again to focus on those as well as pre earnings straddles and strangles, once earnings season starts in January since these are the most popular of SO trades ? Also will you have a different expectation from these trades in January since volatility has already spiked in the last two weeks ? Thanks.

Another trade idea from CML. The problem I have found with these trades is that they are theta negative and the short duration of the trade (7 days in this case) makes it very difficult to get a profit unless the stock moves a lot. Fedex announced results yesterday and the stock is down after market. ====================================================================================================================================== With the bull gone and a bear market in sight, let's look at successful option strategies that trigger off of an earnings miss. If FedEx doesn't move down off of the earnings result, no problem, we'll put a pin in this back-test and revisit it next quarter. This is a slightly advanced option trade that bets on volatility for a period that starts one-day after FedEx Corporation (NASDAQ:FDX) earnings and lasts for the 6 calendar days to follow, that has been a winner for the last 5 years and 1 year. We note the use of strict risk controls in this analysis. FedEx Corporation (NASDAQ:FDX) Earnings In FedEx Corporation, if the move off of earnings was down, even the slightest amount, if we waited one-day after earnings and then back-tested going long an one-week straddle (using two-week options), the results were quite strong. This trade opens one-day after earnings were announced to try to find a stock that moves a lot after the earnings announcement.

Hi Kim, There are lot of discussions about not over paying for a trade, setting limit orders etc. But I have had this question for a long time ? * How does it matter even if you chase a price for a trade and pay 2% to 5% more ? For example instead of $1.00 lets say you chase and get filled at $1.05. Now if the trade works in your favour you will still make a profit although a tad bit less. And if the trade goes against you, you will make a tad bit higher loss. It is the 5% more profit or loss, thats it. And you never know even if you had not chased and had been patient and gotten filled at $1.00, are you able to exit at the ideal price ? There are so many variables in the overall profit/loss for so many trades you will take that, don't you think identifying the trade setup is more important ?. Once you are convinced, you can actually chase the price to get filled atleast till 5% to 7% higher ? It should not make a difference in the long run. Getting more winning trades with good R:R is more important and not the filled price which might be 5% or 7% higher even if you chase. Because if you strictly follow the rule of not chasing at all, you will actually miss out on good trades which will actually make more of a difference in your overall P/L and not the 5% to 7% higher price you will have paid for the trades by chasing ? Can you please explain ? Thanks.

Hi everyone, Which are some good trading journals to records your trades with notes, track your performance etc. ? And also something which can import your trades from ToS. Something like https://www.wingmantracker.com/ Thanks.

Hi Kim, The SO trades given out in the last couple of days do not give good results when back tested with CMLViz. So my question is when trade ideas are given out in SO, do I need to back test using any tool ? And why did CMLViz not give good back test results for the last four SO trades ? Thanks.

If backtest does not give good results, do you skip the trade ?
Manish71 replied to Manish71's topic in General Board
Folks, Any inputs ? Thanks. -
Here is one trade I am looking at: Sell -4 CREDIT SPREAD IYR DEC 79/82 CALL @.71 Credit. The PoP is decent. But the back test using Cmlviz does not give good results with respect to % return and win rate. In such cases do you skip the trade ? Also in general, a question for experienced traders: Do you trade a strategy for an underlying if and only if the back test has given good results over 6 months, 1 year, 2 years, 3 years, 5 years etc ?
