@krisbee, thanks! Next time you have partially filled order, try to modify it via web interface, it would be interesting to know whether TradeHawk developers made some modifications to their software, or maybe it's some new fixes on Tradier/APEX part.

Exited SHW for a scratch (4.85 credit). Could do it earlier today, but wanted to see what happens, and marked went down. Slightly better entries are possible now. If anyone is still in the trade, remember to close SHW today as earnings are tomorrow BO.

@NikTam, I personally think it is too late to sell calls right now. Would be better to do it at the entry time. Better to stick with the original plan. Or liquidate trade if stop loss is met. Selling calls now may do more harm rather then help.

@NikTam, thanks, I know what bull call spread is. I just wanted to make sure it is not a typo in your post, and you do really have two long calls with different delta's. This trade is a longer term one, as indicated in the posts above, sometimes it makes sense to use call spread to compensate for time decay for trades which last more than a few days.

Yeah. That's what I did. By the way, @NikTam, do I understand correctly, is it two long calls on BA, not a bull call spread?

I'm in SHW Feb'16 450 call for 4.80 debit as well. Wanted to be in this trade as SHW is heading upwards unlike BA which is falling today.

Thanks for clarifying what exactly you bought. For me this thread is not quite easy to follow as members rarely provide full details on the trades made.

Actually, they are not. TradeHawk can emulate the desired behavior - when user asks to modify partially filled order, cancel an order on the exchange, allow user to modify order parameters, send a new order. Yes, it requires some effort from the software developers, but it can be done. Again, looks like a good candidate for a feature request (adjust order size to the unfilled number of contracts. Ok, I'll talk to TradeHawk developers myself and ask for these features once I get my hands on TradeHawk software. Let's see what they reply.
-
@SBatch, Thanks for the correction! A couple of questions: 1. Did you talk on this issue with TradeHawk developers? Should be relatively easy to fix. 2. How do you deal with partially filled orders yourself? Do your click on a canceled order to automatically repopulate the trade ticket as you suggested above? If so, does TradeHawk substitute correctly the number of the contracts not filled yet, or uses initial trade size? I signed up for Tradier account, so I am going to find out the answers myself soon. Right now I just want to collect the best practices.

Yes, TradeHawk allows to modify an existing order price in the Orders window, to hit Send button, and the system automatically cancels an existing order and sends a new one. Take a look at "Take the Tour: 30 minute tour of the platform" video here for an example how this works. Orders window discussion starts approximately on 10:30: https://www.mytradehawk.com/videos/

@Sirion, ok. Let me know your experience with Tradier! I am really interested in things like how usable ONE + Tradier is, or how TradeHawk is compared to ONE when it comes to book keeping and monitoring trades. Also it would be interesting to know how ACAT transfer works, how long it takes, if it goes smoothly in case my margin is occupied partly by open trades and I am transferring only spare cash (I never did ACAT transfer myself, so looking forward to hear any details on the process when IB and Tradier are involved).
-
I have the same thoughts. "ONE was just.. blah. It's almost easier to do manual tracking." - do you mean ONE with IB was not easy for tracking, or ONE with Tradier? As some members already know, for IB I developed a Python script called TradeLogIB to dump trades using IB API to a .csv file which can be then imported into ONE almost in real-time. This makes tracking process quite easy. Here is the script: https://github.com/stenri/TradeLogIB

@anand331, Portfolio Margin is useful for PureVolatility trades. It is true, for all other SO strategy PortfolioMargin does not make much difference.
-
@Noah Katz, no, Portfolio Margin is completely different thing compared to Regular Margin.
-
How does that work? If I send an order from ONE, then cancel an order in Tradier web interface. Does ONE knows the order is canceled and it needs to be removed from the Trade Log? As far as I know ONE only sends order to the broker and then forgets it. If you want to have real fills and real commissions in the trade log, you need then to import trades using Import. At least this is how ONE works with IB. Yeah, I know TradeHawk has better integration. But I need something that can work both with IB and Tradier. As Tradier does not have Portfolio margin, I am not ready to move the whole account to Tradier. So I am investigating, may be to use ONE to trade both IB and Tradier. But that can be too much overhead..
-
@ChadK, interesting. I'm also considering an option to use ONE with Tradier. So if I send 4-legged order to close Iron Condor, I need to manually modify 4 legs and set "to close" for them. Then hit "Transmit" - at least 5 mouse clicks. Sounds a bit awkward. How convenient this order entry management process in practice? If you ever used IB it would be interesting to compare ONE + IB and ONE + Tradier in terms of order management. What happens if you forget to modify order legs and set "to close" for individual legs when closing a position?
-
I believe yes, to opt out you have to sign some document stating you are responsible for <blah-blah-blah>.
-
It is called Partial SLS Opt Out. Go to Manage Account / Security / Secure Login System / SLS Opt Out. And do a Partial Opt Out for your account. For me, IB Key is too unreliable to use it for trading access.
-
By the way, do you know you can configure IB so you only need IB Key to login to account management? And for trading access you only enter login/password in TWS.
-
They do accept Intenational Accounts, as they were half a year ago. But you need to talk to their support for that.

TradeLogIB: Importing Interactive Brokers trades into ONE
Stanislav replied to Stanislav's topic in General Board
@Christof+, @greenspan76, thanks! Looks like Flex Report can be used to get list of trade confirmations in real-time. I am quite happy how my TradeLogIB script works currently. The only limitation is that IB API only return trades for the past 1-7 days, depending on how TWS is configured. But that is ok, since the idea is to import trades into ONE as soon as possible after we get a fill. And I never detected any issues with API "which at times can loose a fill or a position" as @Christof+ wrote. Maybe I'll experiment with Flex Report sometime in the future - they can be useful for generating year-to-date reports for example. But that is slightly outside of scope of TradeLogIB functionality as I see it. -
TradeLogIB: Importing Interactive Brokers trades into ONE
Stanislav replied to Stanislav's topic in General Board
@Christof+, thanks! Yes, ib_insync author also commented that flex webservice or FlexReport might be of some interest for my project. But I think current TradeLogIB implementation is optimal for the particular task I solve. Out of curiosity, does FlexReport's allow to receive fills in "realtime" - immediately after an order is filled? This is what I need to properly integrate OptionNET Explorer and IB. At least for the reports that can be generated via Account Management one have to wait till the end of the session to generate a report with today's fills. That is what I want to avoid. -
By the way, I believe someone has to talk to IB on commissions on options on stocks and indexes. With Tradier and Robinhood brokers offers, and partially considering recent TastyWorks $10 commissions cap on single leg, IB becomes really not competitive with regards to commissions on options. The only reason I still did not switch to Tradier myself is no portfolio margin in Tradier which really useful for our PureVolatility plays. And the lack of option on futures and no plans to implement these features. But I am monitoring and thinking..
