You are not alone, my friend. I had one. The ZX81. Younger people, google it! A piece of art. later i also owned a Spectrum. But finally became a traitor and bought a.... yeah, you know, the one ending with “64”. Good old times, those were... anyways, congrats!

@Ringandpinion, Great to have a guy on the inside! Did your guy/gall at TDA mention a specific time when commissions will disappear? "Pretty much now", I read. But do customers have to ask for it? Just checking if you know more ;-).

If you click on the "Installing updates..." line, it will show the stack trace. Seems to be a connectivity issue (SocketTimeOutException): This is on a Mac, btw. Mobile app is working.

Yes. And with IB as well. Did not try tradier.

Lynx is just a company trying to market IB in Europe. You would be far better of doing business directly with IB. But apparantly Lynx has leverage on you. I would run away as fast as possible. having said that: opening an account with TOS is easy for Europeans. Just look it up on TD Ameritrade’s site. If you fund it enough and have sufficient trade volume you can bargain a rate of 0.65 per contract. That’s what I do. BTW full disclosure: I am with IB as well. european brokers are just too expensive.

I have mac too. @yelmalem, it is easy to install a Windows Virtual machine on a mac. You can run any windows app in a VM on a Mac. Oracle’s Virtual Box is free. But it didn’t fit all my needs (long story) so I went for Parallels. Parallels is a paid tool, around 80 bucks a year. Works like a charm and very easy to set up. Integrates seemlessly with Macos. I don’t run ONE in it, but it should work without issues. Give it a try. I believe they have a try out period. Parallels is really good.

for the record: the commission free plan only applies to stocks and ETFs. For options there are still commissions to be paid.

No ticket charge. I do have to pay misc fees, but those are pennies per transaction. I do think your account needs to be > 25K and needs to be marked 'pattern day trader'.

I’m on the $0.75/contract rate at TOS. Had to ask for it though. I guess they look at account size and trade volume.

New members might also consider this is not an alert-service, or a 'blindly follow the alert without my own due diligence'-service. When I just joined, I indeed treated it as such. But after some time it eventually dawned on me that I should learn from the alerts. And not blindly follow them. Although following the alerts can certainly be a profitable venture, even hours or days after an actual alert went out, the real value of this service is the knowledge that is shared on the boards. I am now able to set my own entries and exits, sometimes even before the alerts go out. I am still using the first post in each 'trade discussion'-topic as my main information source for placing my own trades (i.e. I am not searching for actionable trade candidates myself yet), and am doing just fine. For me, it is not an issue at all that I am only able to see trade alerts hours after they have been issued. Because, based on the discussion topic that preceded the alert I have already set my own entry criteria and will use those to enter the trade (have to confess that for the RICs I am still a bit at a loss, and am still learning). New members, trust me: a missed alert really is no big deal. BTW, lots of times I am not even able to get the fills Kim or Yowster get. No sweat. There will always be a next trade. Sometimes (not often) my fills are better, sometimes I miss altogether. But I never, ever chase. I used to do that, and got burned. Kim et al are learning us to fish, they are not feeding us.

Yeah.... @Kim, I hear what you are saying. Actually I even have an account at IB and have been trading it for years already (not too actively, of late). But my account at TOS is a lot bigger and I am using a part of that account for my SO trades. And... I am somewhat lazy in moving some more funds over to IB so I can do my SO trading over there. And, honestly I do not like the TWS platform, at all. I'm very happy with the TOS platforms, both mobile as desktop. But maybe I should give TWS another try. I will give it some more thought ;-) You are of course right about the low commissions and better fills.
-
LOL, you are right. I now realise I am also in the $0.75 plan.... Forgot I bargained about a year ago, like you did. ;-)
-
It's on an iPhone. The AppStore tells me the latest version of IB TWS is 8.42 and when I open the app and go to Configuration and to the bottom of the page it tells me "Interactive Brokers. You are using version 8.42.2065". Maybe you are using Android? But never mind, I was just wondering if there had been any major release I had missed.
-
@cuegis, which new mobile app are you refering to? IB TWS 8.42?
-
sorry @SBatch, I misunderstood and replied too fast. Did not mean to be rude, as I now realize it was. Sorry again.

Well, tech savvy as we are, running windows or windows apps on a mac has never been an issue. Just create a virtual machine or use a platform like crossover to run the app in. Just Google it. I haven't actually tried it but I am pretty sure I would be able to run ONE on a macbook pro. Probably also on a normal mac. No deal breaker there ;-)
