Steady collar trades further in time vs closer expiration date

Hi,

I did closer looks at stocks ex dividend dates last week and ones for 02/12. Want to understand your perspective on entering collar with expiration dates like 6 to 8 months out vs next month? There seems many close to zero entry(or cheap) sell of call and buy put available that allows to harvest dividend with hold period of days vs months. Made some money on TFC and PZZA w/o leverage but due to SCCO price going up could not get profit on it. Help me get perspective on what I am missing here doing near term trades and exiting quickly vs waiting for months and paying margin interest on transactions
